About Me |
|
"Find something you love to do, and you'll never work a day in your life", goes the old saying. My love of broadcasting started at a young age, when on my birthday my father took me to WOLF in Syracuse, and the DJ on duty, Bud Ballou, sat me up on the edge of the sound console so I could see everything that was going on. From that time on, that's all I wanted to do. I went to bed every night with my transistor radio beside my pillow, turning the dial between CKLW and WCFL on the AM band. When I was in my early teens, my father helped me build a small radio station in the basement of our family home, where I would spend endless hours spinning vinyl records to broadcast to the neighborhood. I rolled a tape to record myself, and when I was 16, sent it to a radio station in Utica, NY. To my surprise, and pleasure, I was hired to run the religious tapes on Sunday morning while I making the morning news calls. The last part of my shift was running Casey Casem's American Top 40 show. Eventually I graduated to announcer with a weekend show of my own. I worked at several stations part-time while I was in High School, which led to my first full time announcer position on a daytime station while still in High School. I started doing commercial production as well, tagging the movie spots: "starts Friday at Cinema North, a Cinema National Theatre" and "now playing at the Mini One, a Cinema National Theatre" and progressing to 30- and 60-second commercials. For more than two decades, I worked as an announcer for a number of stations in the central New York region, including WTLB, WPAW, WOLF, WFBL, WHEN, WSEN, WHFM, WSYR, WYYY, WTKW among others. It was during my stint at WOLF, that I learned much of what I know about commercial production from the great Jim Sims. I used to love to hang around and see some of the outstanding editing, liners, promos and spots he would produce. I would later return to WOLF as full time mid-day announcer. While I was in college I accepted a position as Production Director at WHEN. At some point I was asked if I was interested in doing some narration by one of the agencies. After working a morning position in Rochester, NY, I headed back to Syracuse as Production Director and swing announcer at WSYR and Y94FM where I would spend my next 13 years. I produced and hosted the Saturday Night Oldies Show for 10 of those 13 years. While radio has changed, my love of voice and production work has not. In recent years, I have done air-traffic for Metro Networks and worked as a Master Control operator in television. I have been able to continue to provide commercial voice-over work and narrations for TV spots and for my own clients. To these clients I say "THANK YOU" for your continued support and confidence in the quality of my work. To my future clients, I extend a warm welcome to my web site. Please
